Control Claude Code from your Tesla's screen 0 open listings
discussion=https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49709438, title=Show HN: Control Claude Code from your Tesla's screen, You can now screen share your Mac and control Claude Code on the Tesla screen. I found myself sometimes running Claude Code on my laptop in the passenger seat and thought "I would love to see it on my screen also". This lead to me building this Tesla screen sharing thing, that works super nicely with Claude Code. There is also a button on the screen to toggle voice mode so that you can control it with voice. Would be super to get people to test it and tell me if it is useful or not. I use it every day, but definitely biased! Happy to answer any questions!

Dbmask 0 open listings
discussion=https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49645189, title=Show HN: Dbmask – Discover, mask, and verify sensitive data in SQL databases, Hi HN I developed *dbmask*, an open-source Python tool designed to discover sensitive columns in SQL databases, masking them with deterministic fake values, and validate the masking results. The motivation behind this tool stems from a common issue I encountered when handling test data: existing masking tools often assume the user already knows exactly which columns contain sensitive information. Furthermore, the successful completion of a masking task does not guarantee that all sensitive values have actually been replaced. dbmask aims to integrate these steps into a unified workflow rather than treating them as three separate tasks. During the detection phase, the tool makes determinations by combining column names, sampled values, database type/context, historical decisions, and optionally LLMs. While LLM functionality is disabled by default, it supports local execution via Ollama or other services compatible with the OpenAI API. If the tool cannot determine a column's nature with confidence, it marks it as `UNKNOWN` rather than simply classifying uncertain cases as "non-sensitive." I also wanted to incorporate human decision-making into the system. Detection results can be exported for manual review, and confirmed decisions can be saved in CSV, XLSX, or Markdown formats, or stored in a SQL history decision table. The system logs information about both the analyst and the reviewer and re-evaluates past decisions if column types change or review results expire. The masking process employs deterministic mapping, ensuring that identical original values consistently map to the same synthetic values across different tables. Once masking is complete, the `dbmask validate --strict` command compares the masked copy with the original data, checking row counts and table structures, and verifying sensitive values row-by-row using primary keys wherever possible. The project is currently in its early stages (version 0.1.x). The current CI (Continuous Integration) pipeline covers SQLite testing; integration tests for PostgreSQL and MySQL, as well as public detection benchmarks, are included in the future development roadmap. I would particularly appreciate feedback on the detection rules, the manual review/history tracking workflows, and the verification methods. Please let me know if you encounter any usability issues or potential security risks while testing on the temporary database. Install: pip install dbmask

Decode, encode, listen, and speak to learn a language 0 open listings
discussion=https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49609509, title=Show HN: Decode, encode, listen, and speak to learn a language, Hey HN.I love learning languages and I have tried several language learning apps over the last few years, but I didn’t like any of them because they were either expensive ($20-$50/month) or weren’t very effective.I was using Duolingo, for example, because it was free, but it was slow and ineffective. Even after having ~150 day streak, I still couldn’t say much in Spanish. I was either passively listening to the language, learning vocabulary without context, or learning sentences that weren’t realistic. So I set out to build my own.I have tried different approaches and techniques over the last 1.5 years for learning a language, and finally found something that works well. This web app uses a 4-step system of decoding, encoding, listening, and speaking.1. Decoding: You are given a sentence in your target language (e.g., French) and have to unscramble the English words to figure out what it means.2. Encoding: The exact opposite of step one—translating the active thoughts from English back into your target language.3. Listening: You listen to the native audio of the sentence and type out the English translation.4. Speaking: You hit the record button and actually practice speaking the sentence out loud from day one.I have been using this app for a while now, and it has been helping me learn French far more effectively than my previous approach. It gets me speaking the language from day one, I learn vocabulary and grammar through context, and I learn phrases and sentences that are practical and realistic.I am excited to finally launch it and get it into the hands of other language learners. I would love to hear any feedback you have on the method or the app itself!I’m currently running a free private beta. If you want to test it out and help me improve it, you can test the 4 steps in the website demo or sign up for free here: https://www.4tospeak.comCaleb

discussion=https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49731089, title=Show HN: Deiko – point at your screen, talk, and hand the brief to your agent, macOS, 0.4.5, free to try: curl -fsSL https://deiko.app/install.sh | sh I kept losing time explaining my own screen to Claude Code. Screenshot, crop, paste, then type three paragraphs describing which dropdown I meant. The context was all right in front of me and I was transcribing it by hand. Deiko: double-tap Right Option, and it listens while following your cursor. Hover what you mean while you talk — "this dropdown closes when I scroll, keep it open". Each thing you point at gets cropped and labelled. Tap Option to stop, and you get a brief plus the screenshots, which you drag into whatever agent you use. Works with two languages mixed in one sentence, which is how I actually talk. Screenshots and briefs never leave the Mac. Audio is transcribed then deleted; first 30 minutes use cloud transcription, after that it runs on-device forever. Things you should know before installing: - It's signed with a self-signed cert, not an Apple Developer ID, because I haven't paid the $99. That's why there's an install script: macOS quarantines the bundle, and the GUI "Open Anyway" misses the Node runtime nested inside, which then fails silently minutes later mid-transcription. The script is one `xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine` and a copy to /Applications. Read it first, it's short. - The bundle is ~110MB, mostly that Node runtime. - macOS 14+, Apple Silicon and Intel. - Pro ($3.99/mo) adds cloud transcription back and your own Sarvam/Groq key. Everything else is free and always will be. The thing I'm least sure about is whether pointing-while-talking actually beats just typing for people who aren't me. If you try it and it felt slower, I'd genuinely like to hear that.

I built it because I was using zsh autosuggestions but got tired of typing the same commands again and again. So Deja predicts your next command from your history.
