The idea is this: a usable Lisp-shaped language where all the meaningful computation is done in untyped lambda calculus. Logic, arithmetic, data structures, control flow, even the types — all untyped lambdas. A small, explicit Racket layer sits at the boundary to handle the outside world, plus some macros for syntactic sugar. This is its story: A couple years ago, I wanted to play with untyped lambda calculus and go beyond where tutorials usually stop. They show booleans, numbers, arithmetic, maybe the Y-combinator — and then stop. I wanted them to keep going. So I started a project called All The Lambdas. Using Racket set to lazy, I used only one Racket construct for actual computation — lambda — and built integers, rationals, lists, binary digit-list number encodings, search algorithms, and more. Then I found Functional Programming Through Lambda Calculus by Greg Michaelson. In it, Michaelson sketches the bones of a language built in untyped lambda calculus, including a type system where typed objects are themselves pair functions containing a type tag and value. I found that intriguing and implemented and extended the idea, still entirely with untyped lambdas. I don't have a background in programming language theory, so I was figuring it out as I went. Then I stopped tinkering with it for a while. Recently I came back and thought: why not turn this into a real usable language with the help of coding agents? I reused most of All The Lambdas as the foundation. Thus AttaLambda was born. Some additional details: * Rat, its number type, uses binary digit-list encodings instead of Church numerals, so numbers scale with their number of binary digits rather than their value * errors are lambda-encoded values, not Racket exceptions, and propagate through the language like ordinary data * the Racket host only performs irreducibly external operations; even things like HTTP parsing, routing, and response construction stay in the pure lambda world * recursion uses lambda-calculus recursion: no loops or true self-reference, just the Y-combinator underneath * automated purity checks catch accidental cheating, like native computation leaking into the pure parts * syntax like multi-argument lambdas, let, cond, and list is just macro sugar that reduces to unary lambdas and application A couple code examples: (short of print, every single thing here reduces to unary untyped lambdas) Factorial: #lang attalambda (rec factorial n = (cond ((eq n 0) 1) (else (mult n (factorial (sub n 1)))))) (print (factorial 10)) Which prints: 3628800 Or an exact harmonic sum: #lang attalambda (print (reduce add 0 (map (lambda (n) (unwrap-ok (div 1 n))) (range 1 8)))) Which prints exactly: 363/140 As far as I know, no programming language combines all these features: Michaelson-style type tags built from untyped lambdas, exact rationals backed by binary digit lists, errors as lambda values, and real-world programs where almost all computation stays inside the lambda core. None of those pieces are individually new, but I don't know of another language combining them this way. It stemmed from a conversation with a friend around life sciences, where we kind of landed at "surely there’s a paper confirming most arguments", i.e. coffee is bad, coffee is great, etc. You enter a claim, e.g. "drinking wine is good for the heart" -> the system does a semantic search across a corpus (PMC, bioRxiv, medRxiv and arXiv) -> pulls in relevant quotes if they fit your claim, and gives you a verdict. Frontend was done with a combination of Sol + Opus, I spent a bit of time exploring different designs and landed on this slightly ridiculous printer that spits out your evidence. Some notes: - I have no accuracy evals, this was a throwaway thing I built, so no clue on reliability. It does pass the vibe test, so give it a whirl! - Initially built a RAG for a tiny set of PMC, but scaling that up seemed like a lot of work for an evening project. Luckily found an API that does the semantic search across the different sources.

Recently with claude "auto mode" not working as "automatically" as before I resurrected this. Hopefully it is of use to you too. Usage: sclaude / scodex just like you'd call claude or codex. To update: sclaude update (updates the script and tooling) It runs locally in a container. Docker also works via Docker-in-Docker (but can be turned off). Feedback welcome!

Lime renders markdown in the terminal with actual formatting - big headers, syntax highlighted code, mermaid diagrams, all drawn using Ghostty’s Kitty graphics protocol support. It picks up your terminal’s native theme and you can jump between headings, pull up a table of contents to search and jump to sections of your document. It’s macOS and Ghostty for now, the document lives in scroll back and we use Apple Events to ask Ghostty jump around the scroll back instead of re-rendering. This also lets you use Ghostty’s native search and shortcuts for navigation.

I already have iMessage and WhatsApp open all day, so I built an assistant that lives there and manages my Google Calendar and Google Tasks by text. "Lunch with Sam Thursday 1pm", "move my 3pm to tomorrow" — the real calendar updates. No install, no new interface. When I get calendar invite from others, I also get a text and I can simply text back to RSVP. Refresh tokens are envelope-encrypted via KMS. Texting "delete my account" purges everything. Would appreciate feedback.

The world-building of the original trilogy of novels from the 1970s, is lovingly carried through into this side-scrolling "platform-adventure". You can play the IBM PC port of this game online fairly easily, but the quality of the C64 version is much better (non-dithered graphics, better colors, polyphonic sound). However I found there was a lot of friction to just play the C64 version. So back in 2013, I tried restoring and packaging the C64 version of the game to make it just one step to play. I made a bootable x86 ISO with a Linux unikernel that only ran the VICE C64 emulator, pre-configured to launch the game from some .G64 disk images that a German hacker cracked for me. Took about 4 months of effort and the results were mid; the game would be running from VMWare boot in 5 seconds but it still required a whole VM, the sound was choppy, and save games were kind of a hassle. I made a basic webpage and shelved it as a beta experiment. Then, for some reason about a week ago I decided to try again. But this time I directed Fable and Astra in varying capacities to dissect and disassemble the original .G64 images, produce a spec, and produce a Javascript version equivalent to the original. They got about 75% mostly autonomously in a single evening. I've since spent a few tens of hours playing it through, getting bugs fixed, tweaking the interface, improvements, and writing the About page. I had to have some difficult conversations with Claude and I made some unpopular decisions, but after all that, this is the result and I'm kinda proud of it. It's not a major project, but then it never should have been. So I just wanted to share this game from my childhood and the process and the result. Hope other people remember this game fondly and enjoy playing it again!

discussion=https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49612123, title=Show HN: Bestie, a coding agent that respects you, hi friends! this year, i've been working on a general purpose, native terminal coding agent harness. i remember being absolutely struck the first time i ever used claude code and it could just do things. i'm also a big fan of crush and pi.it's pretty early on. i still have yet to build all the higher-level behaviors that make something go from a harness to a proper agent. it turns out, making a coding agent is incredibly hard because you have to strap a development environment to an llm. in my hubris, i had thought "oh—it's just a terminal app that calls some api's!"i'm trying to provide all the things that i think an agent should have out of the box: subagents, sandboxing, compaction, cross-platform support, a beautiful interface, etc. i would be absolutely delighted if you'd give it a go (as far as safety goes, the sandbox tends to be too restrictive rather than too lenient—i'm trying to figure it out as i go).i made bestie because i don't like it when agents do things and don't tell you what they're doing. or when the harness itself won't provide visibility into things. so bestie is architected around being able to inspect anything that happens in an inspector pane that shows you the inputs/outputs of every tool call, background job update, and shell process.

The main changes: - SQLite is now the default database. - Datastar is used for server-side rendering. - Introduces biff.graph[2] and biff.fx, two libraries that both help structure your application logic. - Biff is now "just" a collection of independent libraries rather than a single monolithic framework, which makes it much easier to swap out the various parts. e.g. using a non-default database is much less work now. I'd been experimenting with a good chunk of this work (the database change and the biff.graph / biff.fx stuff) starting 2 years ago. The Datastar and independent libraries stuff goes back 6 months or so. Datastar's been on my radar for a while and has been picking up steam in the Clojure community, for good reason IMO. The independent library stuff was instigated by me trying out LLM-driven coding for the first time earlier this year: I wanted to try making a Clojure web app without using Biff to see if web frameworks still seemed helpful (my conclusion: absolutely) and how I might do things from first principles were I to start over. So I did that and then started packaging up/rewriting various Biff code as smaller individual libraries as I went. Note that I consider Biff to be mostly "hand-coded"; I start with LLM-written drafts of code but often by the time I'm done editing it's been completely reworked. The initial drafts of docs are all hand-written. I'm interested to try using it for vibe-coding apps though. e.g. how much of the code that requires good judgment can I pull into the framework so that the apps are then easier for LLMs to not screw up. Biloba's the browser-testing library I've always wanted. It's 2-3x faster than playwright and allows you to write expressive parallelizable browser tests and automations in Ginkgo and Gomega (for Go) and Vitest (for TypeScript). Pragmatic atomic Javascript operations (b.Click("#foo") => foo.click()) give you speed and stability by trading off realism. Opting back into realism (scroll then emit pointer click event) where you need it is as easy as b.Realistic().Click("#foo"). And it's designed from the ground-up to be agent-friendly. Failure messages include DOM outlines, paths to saved screenshots, and polling traces so agents can pinpoint failures quickly. Visual regression tests produce diff images and textual descriptions that point agents at what changed. And now is the time to "Make Something Agents Want".’ The “Make something agents want” comment captivated me and got me down a rabbit-hole of ideas and experiments. Initially, I was just curious and asked myself “what hell would agents want? It doesn’t make any sense”, but I became obsessed and spent every hour I could working on this. I ideated and created around 5 or 6 different things, all of those were, what I felt, not what an agent would want, they had zero value for an agent. I realised value was the key. Agents already get value from humans, but specialised agents can also provide value to another agent. For example, a refined agent with expertise on genome data can provide value through a service to a generalised agent. I could build this agent, but where would I distribute it? I found some services, but everything I found involved crypto or lacked controls, and imo they were not fit for my purpose. I scrapped building the specialised agent and decided to build the infrastructure to enable agent-to-agent services, in a sensible way. A few months later, I had bitroad. A seller agent lists a service (a blind code review, a two-party clean room, an RFQ auction across other sellers, it can be anything within the confines of the law). A buyer agent finds it, buys it in one call or can even request a quote. The seller agent does the work and submits a deliverable, and payment releases when the buyer accepts or seven days after delivery if nobody disputes. The two agents never talk to each other directly. Both talk to bitroad over one MCP endpoint ( https://app.bitroad.ai/api/v1/mcp , OAuth 2.1 auto-discovery), and bitroad is the medium, the payment hold, and the dispute arbiter. Every charge runs the same checks: the spend caps its human set (per transaction, per day, total, summed across both) are re-evaluated before every charge, a quote is re-validated against the listing's price band, and only then is the card charged through Stripe. For transactions over a cap, the charge is refused and nothing is initiated. Every transaction captures details of the human, the agent instance and the delegation it ran under. Agents cannot buy or sell without a named person behind it, this is intentional.
