When I left to build a start-up, I switched to a Mac, and was frustrated by the absence of the shortcuts I had become accustomed to, which is why I built LightningXL on the side. LightningXL is a menu-bar app that uses macOS Accessibility tools to add back two things on Mac that I had on Windows: (1) Access to all the ribbon commands across Excel/PowerPoint/Word using the same shortcuts as on Windows, and (2) formatting / auditing / tracing macro capabilities, similar to Macabacus. None of the existing options provides the same scope of functionality: Accelerator Keys helps with the ribbon shortcuts, but not the macros, and the key tips that Microsoft released in the past year or so don't let you traverse the full ribbon. My Excel efficiency is now close to what it used to be on Windows, so I wanted to share LightningXL more broadly for the other power users out there who for a multitude of reasons are using Macs. Would love feedback on what improvements can be made and what other functionality to add for Excel or the rest of the Office suite.

Halfway through, I realized I wouldn't read this. Partly because it got sloppy, but also because of how I like to learn. I learned about evals by asking my bot a billion questions and feeding it a bunch of links, and then taking a FAFO approach. So for longform posts, im trying to ship a teaching skill along side or instead of the post. No idea if that's useful for others, but this feels like a good pattern for the way I like to learn.

I am working on the front forks now to change the bushings and seals, and I dont think I would've been able to do it without the interactive visualization, the partlist was not detailed enough and the manual was too prescriptive. It gaslit me few times, so I had to use some common sense (like this spring can not be pushing this piece, stop trying to convince me it does), but over all it was a major help. If you have an old machine, car, tractor, commodore64 etc, that is well documented, using Astra you can make amazing interface to see into it. It feels like early stages of the tooling Tony Stark had while creating Badassium :) I cant wait for AR and models baked into hardware at 10 watts and 15000 tokens per second.

I found myself using the timer built into google search all the time to keep on track during a work session, but as soon as I had too many tabs, I'd end up clicking the tab all the time to see how much time was left. Plus, the countdown change movement would become visually distracting. Here, the circle "drains" without visible or distracting movement. Vibe coding used to be a fun term for a low stakes thing made for fun, but these days it's a become a loaded term as real companies pressure their devs to vibe! So, let's call this thing "Vibegentically Agenteered" to mean what vibe coding used to mean, a quickly made low stakes thing just for fun.

But I wanted to also give them a way to immediately surface "which agent wrote this exact line of code". So you can start with a commit, a file, a line, or a PR, and then deterministically surface the exact tool call that wrote it, and the full agent transcript from that session. It's really useful when you want your agents to know why code was written the way it was. It's kind of like a "super comment". A normal code comment does leave some information about why code is the way it is. But if you have selective access to the full original transcript, you can see everything about the code's provenance (like what tests were run, what was the reason it was there in the first place, etc) This type of information would be way too verbose for a human to find useful. But agents can just ingest this stuff and make great use of it. I like to instruct the agents to delegate this type of research work to cheaper high-throughput subagents like Luna for example.

Yelp and Beli allow users to rate or rank restaurants, but not individual dishes. So I built dishlist, an iPhone app around the things on restaurant menus. I schlepped around Dogpatch, Potrero Hill, and Mission Bay taking photos of restaurant menus. Then, I used Claude with my menu schema to turn the photos into structured data. Garry Tan likes to say, "The rocks can talk." Also, "The rocks can see." I represent the menu hierarchy in the database. LLMs can determine what type of thing each menu item is. This lets me index things like breakfast burritos across restaurants rather than just indexing the restaurants themselves. The app suggests possible tags for a menu item. You decide which ones you want to use on your profile. You can build a list of your favorite breakfast burritos, pizzas, burgers, or whatever else you care about. I value my privacy, so you can use the app without logging in at all. If you want to save menu items, you can sign in with Apple. I don't collect names, emails, or phone numbers. If you want to share with friends, you can add a handle. You have to follow another user to see their dishlist, and they have to follow you to see yours. Follow requests are approved or denied by the user. Tedious and a mistake is bound to happen. You want to delegate permissions to other teams but many times the only way is handing out access to everything. If something breaks you have no idea who did it and what exactly was changed. The existing solution is IaC. Tools like OctoDNS or DNSControl can help you with some of the problems described above. But they require the whole team to feel at home with setting up pipelines, command line tools and git. It takes real scientific data where we have it and augments it with procedural generation. So you can fly to e.g. the Whirlpool Galaxy, see a real image of it, but then fly into a 3d model that's created based on the image characteristics and visit individual stars etc within it. Same with nebula and other celestial objects. I used to work at a small planetarium during undergrad, and we didn't have the funds to buy the fancy planetarium software. I dreamed of using something like this during shows to share the scale of the cosmos with visitors. I've added a dome projection mode, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to test it out in a real planetarium yet. If anyone has access, let me know if it works! There's also a sorta hidden presentation share mode where you can share a link and others can follow along with your journey. I added this cause screen sharing so often compresses scenes like this to death! It worked ok for a quick share with some coworkers, but I'm sure there are some issues. Mobile controls are rough but maybe passable. Really hoping for feedback on how hard this thing is to use and where to improve! If you know of datasets I should be including or ways to improve rendering let me know! Anyway, happy flying! There is an incomprehensible amount of stuff happening out there!
